We proudly announce the first record of the Panamanian Dwarf Boa (Ungaliophis panamensis K. Schimidt) at the Soltis Center, which was found on Monday Feb 4th 2013 during a night walk with a group of Texas A&M’s Environmental GeoSciences. The genus Ungaliophis comprises only two species, of which only Ungaliophis panamensis is reported for Costa Rica. According to Savage (2002), this is rare species known only from the canopy of undisturbed lowland moist and wet forests and lower montane rain forest. It is distributed in evergreen forests of the Caribbean lowlands of Southeastern Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Northwestern Colombia (Photo A.R. Rojas-2013).
