This last January 2013 turned out to be extraordinary dry if compared with previous years. Based on our records, we only had 31.0 mm of rainfall for January, as compared with the average of 333.8 mm registered in the three previous years for the same month. The vegetation around the Center seems to be suffering the consequences of lack of rain and some trees species have already dropped their leaves to avoid extreme desiccation. If conditions continue, this could be the longest and driest season since the Soltis Center started operating in June 2009.
